I went to my local feed store yesterday. They usually have a good assortment of veggie’s each year. So, I know to check with them for such things as “seed potatoes”. Since my garden doesn’t have a lot of space, I didn’t buy very many due to the fact you can get several sprouts from one potato. Right now they have a few sprouts, but if left longer, they will sprout more and I will have enough for 2 short rows of potatoes. the potatoes should be planted by the end of
February, while it’s still cool.
I try to plant according to the “Moon’s phases”. My Grandmother, taught me this. It seems that you plant anything that’s grows on top of the ground, during the “new moon”. When it’s starting to grow into a full moon. The crops that produce under the ground, are to be planted when the moon is going down or in last phase after the “full moon”.
You never want to plant anything during the “full moon”, unless it a plant that you want to have beautiful flowers and a healthy plant. This seems to work well and it’s also promoted by the “Farmer’s Almanac“. My Grandmother, swore by it for years, right up to her death. There was always a new one each year, in her home.
